Plastic food and drink containers have been linked to a number of health problems such as heart disease, liver problems and even cancer. However a new study now shows that the chemical bisphenol A that is used in plastic containers causes diabetes.
Bisphenol A health effects include type 2 diabetes
According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), BPA (bisphenol A) more than doubles the risk of developing type II diabetes. This comes as no surprise as BPA has been found to play afoul with the human body. Previous studies showed that adults with high levels of BPA in their system were 3 times more likely to develop heart and liver abnormalities.
Bisphenol A and FDA
While the US FDA (Food & Drug Administration) says that certain levels of BPA in the human body is safe, scientific studies are now suggesting otherwise.
BPA is found in almost every form of plastic packaging, including baby bottles. It is recommended to always looks for BPA free water bottles and containers, especially for children and infants.
